Bulgarian Jews - Survivors of the Holocaust Entitled to Monetary Compensations
04.06.2009
The Jews who lived in Bulgaria and Romania during the Holocaust, will be entitled to monetary compensation, the "Ma'ariv" Israeli newspaper reports.
These are the people who during the war lived in the ghetto, but were not deported to concentration camps. Under German laws, they most of them have not yet received compensations, because they were not forbidden to "move freely" during the Holocaust. The group of Bulgarian and Romanian Jews has filed a lawsuit in the Tel Aviv District Court, which satisfied their demands to receive compensation from the State of Israel as well. The Ministry of Finance appealed against the court decision, but the claim was rejected.
