Three of eight Jews accused of espionage in favor of Israel were released.

                  25.10.2002

Three of eight Jews imprisoned in Iran on accusation of espionage in favor of Israel were released. As a result there appeared hope that remaining five prisoners will also be released. On Thursday 42-year old merchant David Yakov (sentenced to nine years of prison) and the teacher Farzad Kashi (32 years) (sentenced to eight years of prison) were released. These people have stayed in prison for three and a half years on accusation of granting help to Zionist regime.
Israel declared that accusation against imprisoned was insubstantial. American protectors of Jewish prisoners emerging with sharp statements in their protection and with criticism in respect of Iranian government now give no comments. Probably it is explained by their hope for rescue of the rest five prisoners and fears that hostile comments can prevent their releasing.
No official information about releasing the imprisoned has come from Iran.
The analysts consider the releasing has become the result of supposed fight between moderate representatives of Iran regime sticking to improvement the relationships with Western world and conservative clericals seized power during Islam revolution of 1979.
