Time has not spared the building. Today, as 100 years ago, members of the Jewish community threw coins into the foundation's corner, put grout above and laid foundation stones. Head of the Mountain Jews' community of Derbent Robert Ilishaev, Petr Malinsky, the secretary of the community's board, Rabbi Ovadiya Isaakov, the community's members Miir Mishiev, Sevi Hanukaev and others delivered a speech at the foundation stone ceremony. Sergey Pinkhasov, the chairman of the Budget Committee of the People's Assembly of the Republic of Dagestan, promised Derbent Jews the all-round support of Dagestan's government in construction. Alexander Nagdimunov who arrived from Moscow expressed his hope for support of the undertaking by those who live outside Derbent. He is sure that Mountain Jews living in different parts of Russia today will not stay indifferent and will make their adequate contribution into such an important and generous undertaking. The community's leaders and members express confidence that according to the schedule, the synagogue building's construction will be completed in August.
