AJC wins grant for immigration reform initiative

The American Jewish Committee has received a $500,000 grant to advocate for comprehensive immigration reform.
The Ford Foundation grant will go toward an AJC yearlong initiative that will include a series of roundtable discussions with those involved in the immigration debate in order to seek common ground, the AJC announced in a news release.
The AJC also will offer advocacy skills-building workshops to Latino leaders and organizations in Arizona, Chicago, Houston and New Jersey.
"Our goal is to encourage a civil and informed national discourse about immigration that will lead to policies reflecting America's fundamental commitment to democratic values and human nights, and also respond effectively to our nation's national and economic security needs," said Ann Schaffer, director of AJC's Arthur and Rochelle Belfer Center for American Pluralism.
