                  PM: Lebanon responsible for Hizbullah

                  PM: Lebanon responsible for Hizbullah

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu on Sunday reiterated comments he made last week, stressing that Israel will hold the Lebanese government responsible for any attack launched from within the country's territory, including Hizbullah operations.
"The government of Lebanon is making preparations to legitimize Hizbullah," Netanyahu said in reference to the coalition negotiations in Lebanon, "and that will not happen without them facing the consequences."
"The government in Beirut is a sovereign entity, and any attack launched from Lebanese territory is by the government and at its approval," the prime minister warned at the weekly cabinet meeting, according to Army Radio.
Defense Minister Ehud Barak expressed his support in Netanyahu's remarks.
Lebanon's Western-backed Prime Minister-designate and parliamentary majority leader Saad Hariri faces a demand by the Hizbullah-led coalition for veto power in the government - something to which the pro-Western majority has vowed not to grant.
Hariri's alliance fended off a serious challenge from the Iranian-backed Hizbullah in the June 7 vote. Since then, rival leaders have been seeking to defuse tensions, and there are calls for a unity government involving Hizbullah and its allies.
The Lebanese terror group and its allies had held veto power in the interim government following the May 2008 fighting.
