More than 32 thousand Russians - former victims of nazism- will receive indemnification from the Russian Fund of Mutual Understa
30.10.2002 The Russian Fund of Mutual Understanding and Reconciliation started on November 1 to pay indemnification to former victims of nazism during the World War II. On these purposes the German fund "Memory. Responsibility. Future" has transferred 11.7 million Euro. More than 32 thousand Russians will receive indemnification. This biggest number of addressees for all time of transfer of trenches. For the first time indemnification will be give to those who were forced by nazis to work at farms and private enterprise. Accordingly indemnification in amount of 268 Euro will be given to 28.955 former "workers". Former prisoners of death camps and ghetto will receive 5752 Euro; prisoners of other places equal to death camps will get 1533 Euro; compulsory workers engaged in industry - 751 Euro.
As far the number of former prisoners is great, payments will be gradually transferred region by region. The first indemnification will be transferred to residents of 27 regions, in particular Krasnodar region where the biggest number of former victims live. According to the Russian fund, the German side since August 2001 has transferred indemnification (69.7 million Euro) to more than 88 thousand citizens of Russia. However the infants deported to Germany together with parents and those who have been moved around territory of the Soviet Union occupied by Germans and forced to work in favor of German army still have no opportunity to receive indemnification.
