Five hundred haredi men were protesting against the controversial opening of a parking lot in the capital on Saturday.
Some dozen members of the group, located in downtown Jerusalem's Rehov Shivtei Israel, tried to block the entrance of cars into the Carta parking lot near Jaffa Gate, but failed to so when police distanced them from the area.
No incidents have been reported during the demonstration, which organizers said was non-violent. However, two youths were detained after throwing rocks at passing cars several neighborhoods away on Rehov Bar Ilan.
Protests against the opening of the parking lot have been held since early June despite the fact that Jerusalem's Municipality opened it as an alternative to a garage at Kikar Safra, about two blocks away, in order to reconcile differences with the ultra-Orthodox community over the original one.
