The Ambassador of Israel in Ukraine has visited Kharkov with "inspection check".

                  13.12.2002

The Ambassador of the State of Israel in Ukraine, Anna Azari, has visited the Kharkov synagogue. Official Jerusalem takes the most active participation in reconstruction of one of the largest Judaic temples in Europe. One year ago the President of Israel put the first stone to initiate works which are currently about to be finished.
Within the framework of the cultural program Anna Azari has checked how the works on reconstruction of the synagogue were carried out.
As the Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Israel in Ukraine mentioned it is necessary "to check up the progress".
The Ambassador of Israel in Ukraine was satisfied with what she's seen in the synagogue. The first stone laid last year by the Israeli president Moshe Katsav and the head of the region Eugeny Kushnarev was not the only thing made since the beginning of works.
In 1999, after the Kharkov synagogue has gone through the fire and then trials between two Kharkov Jewish communities, it took two years to build up the synagogue.
Members of the community assert that no money, either from the city budget or from regional, was spent for building. Everything was done due to the help of foreign communities and donations of members of Kharkov community. Some of them still remember the times when the synagogue was a place people visited for sports training.
