The festival of Israeli songs and dance in Odessa.
16.12.2002 The festival of Israeli songs and dance, the first in its way, passed last week in Odessa. Two representatives of Israel, Moshe Telem and Raanan Moor, skilled teachers of national dance, have organized the festival. 400 Jewish dancers from all parts of Ukraine and Moldavia have taken part in it.
The four-day festival was carried out in the Israeli cultural center in Odessa. It was headed by Maks Shenkerman. Hundreds of participants from all regions of Ukraine and Moldavia, having passed thousand kilometers, arrived to Odessa to take part in the festival. Noshe Telem and Raanan Moor set close contacts with local fans of folklore dance and carried out series of training during which choreographers and dancers studied Israeli national dances. Nowadays numerous classes of Israeli national dance take place in cities of Ukraine and Moldavia.
"We felt real pleasure having seen enthusiasm with which our new friends met Israeli dances and songs", says Moshe Telem, the known authority in the field of national dance. At the end of the festival representatives of the Israeli bureau on relations suggested both instructors to organize similar action in Moscow in May of 2003.
Together with dancing collectives Jewish choruses from different cities of Ukraine and Moldavia participated in the festival. During the last day of the festival the head of representation of the Jewish agency in Moldavia, Galia Rosentsvejg, and the head of Israeli center in Kishinev, Boas Rosentsvejg, arranged a quiz based on the theme of Jewish traditions and Israeli history. "Awareness of participants in the Jewish traditions and Israeli history appeared to be amazing", says Moshe Telem. "Meeting with Jews of Ukraine and Moldavia became the unforgettable experience for us".
Besides Odessa Israeli instructor have visited Kishinev where they also have carried out series of training with local fans of folklore dance. "Acquaintance to the local Israeli center supervised by the family of Rosentsvejg has made the most pleasant impression on us. Beautiful and perfectly designed rooms, various programs, numerous classes (including computer, musical, literary, fine arts, Jewish traditions and others)
