One forth of Israeli children lives below the level of poverty.

                  22.12.2002

According to the annual report of the Centre of Children health, over 600.000 Israeli children - a quarter from the total number - live below the level of poverty. Concerning Arabs this parameter exceeds 50%, and in concern of Jews it makes 19,3%.
Approximately 120.000 children live in families where at least one of parents is unemployed.
By the end of 2001 the average number of children in Israeli family has decreased to 2,3. In many cases it is caused by growth of one-parent families: as a rule, there are 1 or 2 children there.
