Silver menorah is the award to the Mayor of Kiev.

                  23.12.2002

The Mayor of Kiev, Alexander Omelchenko, has received the award from the Federation of Jewish communities of the CIS - the Silver menorah - for contribution to development of Kiev and support of Jewish communities of the capital. The award to the Mayor has been presented in Kiev by the Vice-President of the Federation of Jewish communities of the CIS, Jonatan Markovich.
This is the second award received in Ukraine. The first Silver menorah has been given one year ago to the President Leonid Kuchma. The same awards were received by presidents of all the CIS countries, as well as by some outstanding figures - in particular, the Mayor of Moscow, Jury Luzhkov.
Markovich has emphasised that the same menorah, symbolising light, success and the triumph of good over evil, is established in the Jerusalem temple. Omelchenko with gratitude has accepted the award, having noted that both in Jewish and in Christian religions good always has triumph over evil.
