24.12.2002 The Chief Rabbi of Israel, Israel Meir Lau has called inhabitants of the country not to celebrate Christmas and New year as, in opinion of the Rabbi, it threatens identity of the Jewish state. Last years cases of celebrating Christmas and New year in Israel according to the Christian calendar have become frequent. Experts explain it by increase of the number of mixed marriages between Jews and Christians and by traditions of repatriates from the former USSR and East European countries.
