In 2002 the number of new repatriates arrived in Israel has decreased for 22 percent.
29.12.2002 According to the information published by the Ministry of Absorption, 34 thousand repatriates arrived to Israel that means aliah decrease for 22 percent compared to the last year. These data is also the lowest for last 12 years.
The majority of repatriates (54 percent, more than 18 thousand persons) arrived to Israel from the CIS countries and over six thousand - from Argentina. More a quarter of new repatriates of 2002 (about nine thousand persons) are not Jews.
According to the data of the Ministry of Absorption a quarter of all new repatriates of Israel serve in the Israeli Defense Army and one third of military men of frontier troops are repatriates. On the other hand, the number of the new repatriates kept in military prisons has sharply increased in 2002.
