New repatriates leaving Israel.
13.01.2003 Ninety thousand new repatriates, out of 1.700.000 newly arrived between 1989 and 2001, have left the country. The data is provided by "Ediot Akhronot" newspaper. The number of the people leaving has considerably increased after the start of "Al Aksa" Intifada.
"Ediot Akhronot" reports that in 2001, 44.663 repatriated to Israel, and 17.679 left the country. Thus, the ration between those arriving and those leavening is 10:4. It is predicted that in 2002 the number of the repatriates leaving the country will be 50% of the number of those entering it.
According to the data published, the majority of the repatriates have left the country because of the economic hardships. Twenty percent of the French repatriates have returned to France, as well as 22% of the American repatriates and 25% of the Canadian. The number of the repatriates from the former USSR is 6-8%.
