Decree on the opening of a Russia's pension fund office in Israel to be signed by the President of Russia.
24.01.2003 Russia has expressed readiness to start negotiations with Israel on the matter of paying off the pensions to the repatriates who had arrived to the State of Israel before 1992 and have no Russian citizenship. The intentions have been stated during a phone conversation between Nathan Sharansky, the Israeli prime-minister and the leader of "Israel ba-Aliah" party, and Alexander Voloshin, the Head of the Administration of the Russian President, January 21. The very same day Mr. Sharansky sent letters to the Prime-Minister Ariel Sharon and The Minister of Foreign Affairs Benjamin Netanyahu offering to start immediate talks between the two countries on the subject of pension to the repatriates from Russia.
- We are talking not only about money, which our pensioners need very much, but also about the justice which must be restored. It is important for Russian-Israeli relations. These people used to be considered traitors by Motherland. Now, Motherland is to recognize that it owes them, stressed Sharansky.
The pension problem is known to have been raised during the Moscow negotiations between Mr. Sharansky and the Minister of Foreign Affairs Igor Ivanov and Alexander Voloshin. Previously, Israel had never succeeded in the matter. Now, things seem to have changed. An agreement on opening a Russian Pension Fund office in Israel was reached, considerably facilitating the procedure of getting the pension money. A special decree will be signed by President Putin.
