Velikiy Novgorod: a law suit against "Russkoye Veche" editor is imminent.

                  24.01.2003

The Public Prosecutor Office of Velikiy Novgorod received an official proof to the writs received from a number of citizens of Novgorod region (in particular, from Jewish Community of the town of Borovichi). The writs accuse a local "region's monthly newspaper of constructive opposition" "Russkoye Veche" of a systematic anti-Semitic propaganda. "The conclusion was that of a group of experts consisting of Novgorod University professors-philologists we had contacted in relation to the matter", said the city's Public Prosecutor Valeriy Zheltkov in an interview to "Izvestiya" newspaper. "Now that the linguistic investigation is over, we start a law suit based on the article 282 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation: "Stirring up a national, racial and religious hatred".
The particular reason to start a law suit has been an article appearing in November edition of "Russkoye Veche" titled "Some Episodes of the 4th Generation War Against the Novgorod Region Population". In his article, a staff journalist "denounced" the "Jewish-Mason conspiracy" by the region and district authorities against the population. The author pointed out at the "junta" members to be criminally persecuted immediately (among the others, Governor Mikhail Prusak).
Philologists-experts have certified the article as "unfolded anti-Semitism". Now, the law suit against the "Russkoye Veche" editor and founder Pavel Ivanov is inevitable", pointed out Valeriy Zheltkov.
An interesting fact that Pavel Ivanov, a journalist and the publisher of the newspaper, is not known in Novgorod. The newspaper has been distributed up to the present without any limitations; it can be bought in any "RosPechat" newspaper kiosk. For over a year now, the official circulation of the newspaper has been 999 copies, allowing it not to be registered in the Ministry of Press of the Ration Federation. However, since the case has been marked as criminal, the Prosecutor Office has intention to tear off the mask from the face of the "constructive oppositionist".
