Kiev's Pechersky court session on the claims brought by the family members of the perished in the Tu-154 plane catastrophe
29.01.2003 The Judge Yelena Umnova has announced that the session of the Pechersky district court of the city of Kiev on the 14 claims brought by the family members of the perished in the catastrophe of a Russian Tu-154 over the Black Sea in 2001, will be held on February 18. All 14 claims have been united into one case. During the session on February 18, the defenders of the Ukrainian government and the Judge will pose questions to the representatives of the plaintiff. On January 28, it took Vitaliy Vakulenko, representing the interests of the victims' relatives, the entire session time to present the court with the compensation demands only.
V.Vakulenko thinks that the fact of a Ukrainian missile hitting the plane, a conclusion drawn by a Russian commission, is enough grounds for paying off for moral and material damages. V.Vakulenko pointed out that lifting the airplane debris from the sea, suggested by the General Persecutor Office of Ukraine in 2002, is important to accuse particular individuals responsible for the tragedy, but has nothing to do with paying off the compensation. Mr. Vakulenko did not pronounce the total amount demanded by the relatives of the perished.
The Tu-154 catastrophe occurred on October 4, 2001 and took lives of 78 citizens of Israel and Russia.
