Commemoration of the first Israeli astronaut, Ilan Ramon, took place in Saint Petersburg.
05.02.2003 Commemoration of the first Israeli astronaut Ilan Ramon, died in the space shuttle "Columbia" disaster on February 1, 2003, was held in the Big Choral Synagogue of Saint Petersburg. Saint Petersburg Jewish community announced the memorial service was attended by the Chief Rabbi of Saint Petersburg Menahem Pevsner, the community's chairman Mark Grubarg, the Consul of Israel Smuel Polischuck, the US Consul Morris Hews.
