The World Congress of Highland Jews (WCHJ) will be founded in Jerusalem.

                  06.02.2003

Jewish Highland communities were among the first to settle in the former USSR's territory. The Northern Caucasus and Azerbaijan are considered to be their traditional settlement areas. After the Soviet Union's dissolution, the geography of the Highland Jews' settlements expanded considerably.
According to the words of Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC) President Alexander Mashkevich and EAJC General Secretary Mikhail Chlenov, the Highland Jews actively participate in creating new communities of Russian-speaking Jewish Diaspora. The number of the communities of the kind is especially high in Eurasia, the territory where the EAJC is active. To have the Highland Jews duly represented in its World Congress, the EAJC has decided to become the Congress's co-founder.
The EAJC leadership thinks that the EAJC's participation in founding the WCHJ will contribute to overcoming dislikes between different groups of the Jewish people, as well as will encourage the development of ties between the Jews and the Muslims, the primary objective of the EAJC's activity. The EAJC's leadership's message reads, "While our adversaries are trying to present the Arab-Israel conflict as a religiously irreconcilable one, the non-Arab Muslims and the Mountain Jews of the Caucasus keep on living in peace and harmony".
Besides the EAJC, the other co-founders of the WCMJ are: the Vaad in Russia
