Five Iranian Jews were released for the holidays.
06.02.2003 The last five Iranian Jews still serving time have been released for the holidays. There is a supposition that the country's authorities are going to release them "for good and all". Just a reminder that these five were among the 13 Iranian Jews arrested in January-March 1999 on suspicion of spying for Israel. Three of them were acquitted and released; others were sentenced, in March 2000, to imprisonment, their sentences ranging from four to ten years.
With 100,000 people before the 1979 Islamic Revolution, the current Jewish population of Iran is between 22,000 and 25,000 only.
