The opening ceremonies of the First Conference of the World Congress of Georgian Jews were held in Jerusalem. Mikhail Mirilashvili was elected the President of the Congress. Mikhail Mirilashvili was born in 1942 in the village of Kulashi, Samtred district, the Georgian SSR. His father headed a silk factory, the biggest local enterprise. Starting at the factory at 17, Mikhail Mirilashvili ascended, over the 30 years of working, from the position of a simple worker to that of the factory's chief engineer. By 1993, the time the normal life in Georgia had already been paralyzed, Mikhail Mirilashvili moved to Saint Petersburg, where his sons Mikhail and Gabriel, Medical Pediatric Institute's graduates, already had successful businesses. Up to the present, the family headed by Mikhail Mirilashvili has created and successfully developed dozens of various factories.
