The majority of local press considers the article in the "Saratovskiye Vesti" newspaper to be anti-Semitic.

                  07.02.2003

A scandalous article in the "Saratovskiye Vesti" newspaper (among the founders of which there is the Government of Saratov region) considered by the majority of the local press to be anti-Semitic, has been evaluated by the law-enforcement agencies. The Public Prosecutor Office for Saratov has completed the examination following the publication in "Saratovskiye Vesti" of an article titled "The Polecat Drank the Brain From the Bird's Head".
A commission of linguistic experts has concluded that the expressions and similes used in the article are insulting to Yuriy Sanberg (a commentator of the "Noviye Vremena" newspaper). The article also contains words damaging the business reputation of the "Noviye Vremena" newspaper.
The main point of the article: a "small nation", impregnated with hate towards the "progressive development of the province", perceiving "the latest history of the province as continuous absurdity and bad luck" and hating its compatriots, is striving for power. The former Minister of Press and Information of Saratov region Yiriy Sanberg is a representative of this "small nation": he is trying to "inject the poison of nihilism into the surrounding social environment".
The experts suppose that "The Polecat Drank the Brain From the Bird's Head" calls for confrontation in the society, has provoking nature and can contribute to the tension in the society. In the Public Prosecutor Office, Mr. Sanberg has been explained that he and the editorial staff may start bringing a court action.
