"Status and Standing of Minorities in Krasnodarskiy Krai" round table discussion took place in Goryachiy Klyuch.

The "Status and Standing of Minorities in Krasnodarskiy Krai" round table discussion was held in Goryachiy Klyuch. A Krasnodarskiy Krai's NGO called "PR Journalists and Professionals", helped by "Open Society" Institute (Soros Fund) in the net of the "Regional Mass Media in Settling Conflicts Between Different Nationalities in Krasnodar Territory" project, highlighted the topic in mass media. That was the third and the finals stage of the project initiated in the fall of 2002 with the "Mass Media and an Ethnic Conflict in Krasnodarskiy Krai (Crisis Preventive Measures)" workshop.
The objective of the round table discussion and the project itself is to increase the level of knowledge of journalists, officials and NGOs' representatives, on ethnic conflicts and ethnic situation in Kuban. During the first stage of the workshop, the mass media representatives from different regions of Kuban had a chance to study in practice the specific features of the development of relations between different nationalities populating the region. They also had a chance to study the legislation needed for correct highlighting and analyzing of the events in the field of relations between the nationalities of Kuban. The two round table discussions held in Korenovsk and Goryachiy Klyuch helped to establish links between the journalists, authorities and national cultural organizations.
Doctor of Political Science, Professor of Kuban State University, Mikhail Savva, and the Chief Deputy of the Migration Monitoring Department of the Administration of Krasnodarskiy Krai, Valeriy Ostrozhny, delivered speeches at the "round table".
The following people actively participated in the discussion: the Chairman of Goryachiy Klyuch Branch of the "Union of the Armenians of Russia" Ambartzum Takhmasyan; the Chairman of the "Jewish Community" NGO Lev Schneidermann; the Chairman of Krasnodarskiy Krai's Akahltzikh Tukrs' NGO the "Turkish Community" Tyanshan Svonidze; the Chairman of the Kurdish community Vali Aliyev; the ataman of the Goryachiy Klyuch Cossack union Vladimir Vasilyev; the Deputy Chief of the Administration of the town of Goryachiy Klyuch Yuriy Demin; the executive secretary of the town's migration commission Olga Ponomaryova; the director of the municipal "Goryachiy Klyuch" TV station Andrei Priymak and other representatives of mass media, administrations and national diasporas of Goryachiy Klyuch, Belorechensk and Abinsk districts of the Krai.
A booklet titled "Mass Media and the Interethnic Relations in Krasnodar Krai" will be published basing on the materials of the workshop and round table discussions.
