Musical soirees by the pianist Oleg Karpov continue in Dnepropetrovsk.

                  20.03.2003

The pianist Oleg Karpov continues hosting musical soirees in the library of the Community centre. One of the soirees featured a guest appearance by Victor Gurvich. The Jewish origin of Russian songs was the soiree's topic. Having imbibed in childhood the Jewish tunes sung by their parents, numerous composers have created outstanding musical compositions basing them on the Jewish melodies (take, for instance, soundtracks to old Soviet movies). Music from the movies captured during WW II and show in the USSR, as well as the Pokras brothers' heritage were discussed. The warm and easy climate of the meeting made the audience sing. Everyone enjoyed signing jaunty Odessa songs. Oleg Karpov played melodies requested by the audience.
