Third chess tournament for children to be held in Moscow.

                  25.03.2003

Third chess tournament in the last two months for the children aged 7 to 15 will be held in the Institute of Judaism Studies (IJS) of Rabbi Adin (Even-Isroel) Steinsaltz, Goncharnaya quay, Moscow.
More than a hundred people, including those representing ethnics other than Jews, took part in the two previous tournaments. It is obvious that the winners were awarded; neither were forgotten other participants. The organizer and supervisor of the tournaments is Alexander Gulko, the chairman of the Chess Federation of the Northern District, a coach in many children chess clubs of Moscow and in that of the IJC. He has been coaching for twenty years now. The Chief Referee was one of Moscow's best, a Republican category specialist Semen Zeitlin.
Chess played by children has always been popular in our country. Several prominent chess players attended the tournaments in Steinsaltz Institute: Igor Botvinnik, a nephew and the chairman of the memorial fund of the legendary M.M. Botvinnik, the first World's chess champion from the Soviet Union; Vladimir Umanskiy, a winner of numerous tournaments; and Mikhail Drosdov, a candidate to master of sports in chess and the Chief of the "Garde" team. Many coaches from numerous children chess schools watched the games and supported their pupils.
