Korat, Israel's leading small business assistance fund.
26.03.2003 Korat Fund conducted a unique research among its 1382 clients. The results show that there are twice as more failures among small businesses owned by new repatriates than among those belonging to the born Israelis. An enterprise's being a success or a failure is stressed to have no relation whatsoever to the location, either the center of the country or its province. Created in 1984, Korat is currently Israel's leading small business assistance fund.
According to the results, out of all the enterprises assisted in 1994-2000, 82% are functioning, 14% have been closed, and 4% cannot be found.
Twenty one point five per cent of all the businesses assisted by the fund are property of new repatriates. Twenty nine per cent of the new repatriates' businesses have been closed, the fate of only 15% of those belonging to native Israelis.
In 2002, 295 small businesses received from the fund the total of 8,500,000.00 shekels in loans, which is 50% more than in 2001. The rise is explained by the increase in demand due to the worsening of the country's economic situation.
