An original anti-war protest in Krasnoyarsk.

                  26.03.2003

An original way of protesting against the war in Iraq was found in Krasnoyarsk.
To follow is the unabridged version of the text sent by Tatiana Ivantsova:
"Krasnoyarsk students and pupils boycott classes of English in a protest against the war in Iraq. Students of a department of Krasnoyarsk State University went on "silent" strike. Two young men refused speaking the "language of the invaders" and sat silently through the entire English class. The students had notified the foreign language teacher about their move in advance.
Several cases of the kind had already happened in the schools of the town, with the entire groups of students sitting in silence. Less diligent students had simply skipped English classes.
Unusual was the protest against the Americans and their allies' actions organized by some local mass media editors, who proclaimed the war on Jewish pseudonyms, frequently used by Krasnoyarsk journalists".
