Karaganda branch of the Jewish Republican library is gradually becoming a centre of cultural life of the Jewish community.

                  26.03.2003

Karaganda branch of the Jewish Republican library was opened in September 2000. Its depository contains about 820 books, 90% of which are by Jewish authors, and 10% are about Jewry. The library also has LPs, video and audio recordings, the fruits of the Jewish people's talent.
Two hundred and thirty people have been issued the library reader card. And this is just a beginning!
The movement never stops here, not even for a second. The library is open seven day a week. Soirees adored by the entire community are regularly held in the literature and music halls. The "Miriam" hesed and the JCC clients show great interest in attending meetings dedicated to lives of prominent Jewish artists, scientists, and politicians. Many people attend these cheerful soirees. The library is gradually becoming a source of inspiration for and a centre of the cultural life of the Jewish community of Karaganda.
Recently, the library has become mobile. It now visits neighboring towns, such as Saran and Temirtau. Last year, traveling libraries successfully held the CJBF and are currently preparing for the latest edition of the Community's Jewish Book Festival.
