A permanent exhibition of the main confessions opened in Cheboksary.

                  27.03.2003

A permanent exhibition of the main confessions opened in the museum of the Chuvash Republic in the town of Cheboksary. The Judaic exposition includes a very old roll of the Torah. The roll, which handles are made of ivory, is thought to belong to a group of Jews evacuated during WW II with a Kharkov factory to Cheboksary. To preserve the Torah, it was handed over to the museum after the war.
The Chairman of the Cheboksary community Josef Vinokur attended the opening ceremony. The community presented the exhibition with sidurs, mazkhors, the "Vaicra" book, an ancient kiara, kips and several photos of the modern Easter seder. A lecture on the principles of Judaism was delivered.
Josef Vinokur conducted a lecture-class on history and introduction to Judaism for the students of the History and Law Department of Cheboksary State University.
