A Catastrophe victim memorial day to be observed in Smolensk.

                  28.03.2003

In this May, Smolensk regional Jewish community and cultural centre will observe a Catastrophe victim memorial day. The World's Righteous Men living in Smolensk region are expected to be invited for the event.
There are five people living in Smolensk region who in the years of Holocaust saved Jews doomed to be executed. Eventually, the Government of Israel named them World's Righteous Men, and their names are now carved into the stones of the alley of the Righteous Men in the museum of Yad-Vashem in Jerusalem.
The saved people live in many cities and towns of the former USSR (Cheboksary, Taganrog, Moghilev, Chelyabinsk), and abroad, and are known to maintain contacts with their saviors.
This meeting will give the survivors an opportunity to meet and thank their saviors again.
