The Jewish community feels at home in the Republic of Kabardino-Balkaria (RKB).

                  28.03.2003

The Ministry of Internal Affairs held a briefing. Anas Pshikhachev, the acting Chairman of the Republic's Muslim Religious Department; Valentin Bobylyov, the arch dean of the Orthodox churches of the RKB; and Lev Ashurov, the rabbi of the Jewish religious community of Kabardino-Balkaria participated in the briefing. The leaders of the traditional communities told the journalists about the inter-confessional accord, religious toleration, and mutual understanding between the Muslim, Orthodox, and Jewish communities.
In his speech, Lev Ashurov pointed out that the Jewish community in the RKB is 200 hundred years old. The community is not only the synagogue; it is also the "Tovushi" Jewish cultural center, and the Charitable House, which helps everyone. For instance, it helped the home for orphan children in Nartan, the Republican House of the Child, the orphanage to children and the house of the elderly. "The Jewish community feels at home in the Republic of Kabardino-Balkaria, and we do not separate us from the Kabardinians, the Balkars, or the Russians", said Lev Ashurov.
