Jewish organizations of Byelorussia against the distribution of the "Russkiy Vestnik" (Russian Herald).

                  10.04.2003

The Union of Byelorussian Jewish NGOs and communities, the Association of the Judaic communities, the Jewish Religious Association, and the Religious Association of the Communities of Progressive Judaism have protested against the distribution of the "Russkiy Vestnik" (Russian Herald), a newspaper published in Russia. The leaders of these organizations have addressed a letter to the Chief Public Persecutor of Byelorussia Victor Sheiman, in which they accuse the "Russkiy Vestnik" of unconcealed popularizing of anti-Semitism.
"At the end of March, the "Soyuzpechat" newspaper stalls started selling the 5/2003 edition of the "Russkiy Vestnik", which announces that certain Jews use the sacrificed victims' blood in their rituals", reads the letter. Finding such allegations a non-sense, the authors of the letter remind the Chief Public Persecutor of Byelorussia that anyone committing a premeditated action aimed at stirring up ethnic and religious hatred, humiliating ethnic pride and dignity, is to be imposed a penalty under Article 130 of the Criminal Code of Byelorussia.
