Anna Akhmatova Memorial Museum in the Fountain House, the US General Consulate in Saint Petersburg and Joseph Brodskiy Heritage Fund invite to the "Joseph Brodskiy: Urania. Leningrad-Venice-New York" exhibition, April 11 to September 2. The exhibition shows the poet's books, manuscripts and memorabilia which reflect his immersion into the world culture and shows his unique ability of turning "the condition we call exile into the source of inspiration". The exhibition is one of the events commemorating the 300th anniversary of Saint Petersburg. The organizers of the exhibition are Anna Akhmatova Memorial Museum, Joseph Brodskiy Heritage Fund, he US General Consulate in Saint Petersburg, the Russian National Library and Saint Petersburg Regional Public Fund for creating Joseph Brodskiy literature museum.
Joseph Brodskiy Heritage Fund played a key role in preparing the exhibition. Ms. Maria Brodskaya supplied the exhibition with the furniture, posters, and photos from her husband's house in South Hadley, Massachusetts. Eventually, these objects will be handed over to the depository of Brodsky Memorial Museum in Saint Petersburg, which is currently being created. Ms. Ann Schellberg, the Fund's literature representative, assisted in shipping to Saint Petersburg a part of the poet's library, as well as the books by his friends and pupils, to be available at the library of Brodsky Memorial Museum. The selection of 500 books is already in Saint Petersburg. In addition, some previously unreleased manuscripts and photos from the poet's New York archive will be shown at the exhibition, courtesy of Ms. Brodskaya and Ms. Schellberg.
Jacob Gordin, a writer, a publicist and a personal friend of Joseph Brodskiy is the consultant for the exhibition. The catalogue will be published by the 'Zvezda" (Star) magazine publishing house.
