Act of vandalism in Moscow's Vostryakovskoye cemetery.

                  01.05.2003

An act of vandalism was committed in the Western district of Moscow. The "Novosti" Russian Information Agency was informed by the Information and Public Relations Department of the Main Administration of the Internal Affairs (MAIF) in the city of Moscow that, on Thursday evening, a group of unidentified people had overturned twelve headstones in the Vostryakovskoye cemetery of Moscow.
The cemetery watchmen discovered the overturned headstone after 6.pm. The MAIF officials said that, for many years, the Vostryakovskoye cemetery is the place where the Jews are buried.
The officials from the "Troparevo-Nikulino" Department of Internal Affairs arrived at the scene and started clarifying the situation. Criminal Code Article #244, "Profanation of Burial Places that", is expected to be applied.
