A group of Israeli and Palestinian teenagers who have lost relatives in the fighting in the Middle East arrived in Osaka Saturday to discuss peace at the invitation of a civic group in Ayabe, Kyoto Prefecture.
The group's visit coincides with discussions on a U.S.-mediated peace plan for the Middle East.
The 14 children, aged from 14 to 18, will discuss their experiences, learn songs that include lyrics in Hebrew and Arabic, and meet Japanese children during their stay in the country until Aug. 1.
The group also will visit the Prime Minister's official residence and hold a press conference for foreign journalists in Tokyo.
Ayabe developed friendship ties with Jerusalem three years ago.
"I hope this will be a chance to think about ways to build peace with Israel so we can live together peacefully," said Rawan Kamal, a 15-year-old Palestinian girl whose uncle was killed in the conflict.
