Conference “Limmud Moscow 2014”

Euro-Asian Jewish Congress Secretary General Michael Chlenov participated in the annual educational conference Limmud Moscow. Limmud Moscow has been held annualy since 2006, and over the 8 years of its existence not only took up an important place in the Jewish community of Russia but also became the largest Limmud in the Russian-speaking Jewish world. The current conference gathered over 1000 participants of various ages and took place from April 24-27 at the Klyazma resort near Moscow.

The conference had over 180 panels on various topics. The panels were moderated by such figures as historian Ilya Altman, journalist Nargiz Asadova, historian of art Iosif Bokstein, writer Michael Weller, historian of literature Aleksandr Gavrilov, blogger Anton Nosik, and many others. EAJC Secretary General, professor Michael Chlenov, who is one of the founders of Limmud FSU, held a panel on Ukrainian events, the reaction of the Jewish world to them, and the situation of the Ukrainian Jewish community. He also read EAJC President Julius Meinl's address to the organizators of the conference.

The EAJC Presidential Address to the participants and organizators of the Moscow Limmud reads: “The Russian Limmud is developing very dynamically. I am truly proud that the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress has a part in this, in aiding your extremely important activities. We support Limmud, because we want to increase the number of programs and services for Jewish youth. We wish to strengthen the Jewish world, and are happy to see how Limmud FSU becomes a regular meeting place for former compatriots around the world.

I am certain that holding the Limmud conference in Russia will contribute to strengthening the foundation of Jewish life. Obviously, there can be no future for us without education and its popularization. It's also important that your activity takes place under the impish slogan “Cool to be a Jew!”, overpowering the stereotypes about the Jews spread by our foes.”
