Euro-Asian Jewish Congress Statement on Terroristic Attack on Malaysian Airliner in Eastern Ukraine

                  18.07.2014, Ukraine

The Euro-Asian Jewish Congress learned about the barbaric terrorist attack that led to the deaths of nearly 300 people, most of whom were citizens of the Netherlands and 80 of whom were children, with pain and profound indignation. An apparent terrorist attack taking place in the sky above the Donetsk region of Ukraine resulted in the destruction of a a civilian airliner flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur. All passengers and crew members on board perished.

We express our support to the peoples and governments of the Netherlands, Australia, Malaysia, Indonesia and other countries whose citizens have died. We present our deepest condolences to the families and friends of the victims.

Terror has no nationality and does not recognize state borders. Terror cannot be justified and should not have any political perspectives. Terror is an ominous threat to the world order and a challenge to all humanity.

We call upon governments and public forces of all countries to unite in opposition to terror and to take all necessary measures so that it has no place on our planer. We expect that the European Union and the global community take effective measures to invesigate the attack as objectively as possible and to bring all the masterminds and perpetrators of atrocities in the Donetsk region of Ukraine accountable to the full extent of the law.

Josef Zissels, head of the EAJC General Council
