29.04.2015, Jewish Communities • Hebrew language course commenced recently. For this purpose community furnished premise in its basement capacity up to twenty people. For now the course got ten attendees, some of them are the members of the community others – not. Lecturer is Shai Kohen, Professor PhD in Philology and certified lecturer for foreign students.
“This is for the first time that Hebrew language is being taught in Montenegro and we are happy that people are interested in. We placed a lot of effort to approach this matter to the people but we managed”, the community emphasize.
• The community is going to open the library for students mostly. Content is related to Judaism, law and economy, on English, Montenegrin and ex-Yu countries language. So far the community provided around 6000 books. Also, there is the electronic library with up to 6000 titles. This is the first one in Montenegro. Services will be free, except printing of electronic text. The community intended a large room in the basement for this purpose and started furnishing it. Opening of the library is scheduled for the beginning of June.
“We keep collecting the books from our friends, other communities in ex-Yu area, cultural institutions, and libraries. We inspired them to offer books as donations”, tell the community.
• Jewish Community of Montenegro participated in forum in Bijelo Polje on the secondary school anniversary which was turned into public event. Within cultural program a history lesson was held, dedicated to the celebration of 70th anniversary of the end of the Second World War and the same many years of the Holocaust. This way the school has contributed to recall to the Holocaust, one of the most brutal events in the history of mankind, with a view not to forget it and never happen again, through development and fostering multiculturalism, tolerance and libertarian values.
Yasha Alfandari, President of the Community spoke at the forum, which was held in the Media Center Radio Bijelo Polje. Subject of the forum was “small stories of Jews in Montenegro”. According to forum participants, the leader of the Montenegrin Jews not only demonstrated excellent knowledge of the history and skills of the narrator, but by the example of the «little Jewish history» showed the problems, common and important for all.
