EAJC Leaders Participate in Latrun Ceremony
13.05.2015, Region The Secretary General of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC) Michael Chlenov and the EAJC Director General Haim Ben-Yaakov took part in the main Israeli state ceremony celebrating the 70th anniversary of the victory over Nazi Germany. The ceremony took place at the Armored Corps Memorial Site in Latrun, and the President of Israel Reuven Rivlin and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu were among the speakers.
The Museum of the Jewish Soldier in World War II in Latrun was also solemnly opened during the celebrations. This museum was created at the initiative of a group of Israeli military service people to preserve and pass on the memory and history of the Jews who fought in World War II, to preserve their heroism and sacrifice through time.
The EAJC Secretary General stressed in an interview that “the preservation of memory about the million and a half Jewish soldiers and officers who fought on all fronts of World War II is a task of the utmost importance for Israel and the Jewish diaspora. The memory of the heroes and victims of the most bloody war in history strengthens the unity of the Jewish people.”
