Statement of Euro-Asian Jewish Congress in connection with the voting of UN Security Council
28.12.2016, UN The Euro-Asian Jewish Congress, consisting of Jewish communities of 23 East-European, post-Soviet and Asian-Pacific countries, is hereby expressing its indignation over the adoption of the anti-Israel resolution by the UN Security Council. This act is a flagrant violation of the commonly recognized principle of bilateral dialogue being the only possible solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. The document not only fails to bring a peaceful resolution closer, but makes it much more distant and complicated.
The absurdity of this voting is especially evident in the light of the imminent change in the White House administration whose position on many foreign affairs is obviously different from the current one. US president elect Donald Trump has decided to move the US Embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem – an occupied city in terms of the new resolution, in many Jewish districts of which it prohibits construction! This document cannot be executed, neither is it intended for execution – its very nature is that of a one-sided anti-Israeli attack by the UN whose biased attitude to Israel has been recognized even by its secretary general Ban Ki Moon. This time however this attitude got manifested at a very serious level.
The Euro-Asian Jewish Congress especially regrets that representatives of EAJC country members – Russia, Ukraine and Japan – voted in support of the resolution, while New Zealand has been one of its draft initiators. The Euro-Asian Jewish Congress calls upon the Jewish communities of all countries to intensify their enlightening efforts, to explain Israel’s true position and the error of UN policy to their populations, and to strengthen their pressure upon their governments to make them move away from their anti-Israeli positions blocking cooperation with the Jewish state and distancing the peaceful Palestinian-Israeli agreement.
The Euro-Asian Jewish Congress wishes to express its support to the nation of Israel at this difficult time.
