Memorial Foundation “Babyn Yar” signs memorandum of cooperation with the Ukrainian Ministry of Culture
17.08.2017, Ukraine On August 14, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the Ukrainian Ministry of Culture (Minister of Culture Yevhen Nyshchuk), the National Historical and Cultural Preserve “Babyn Yar” (Director Boris Glazunov), and the International Memorial Foundation “Babyn Yar” (Chairman of the Trustee Board is Co-President of VAAD Ukraine Andrey Adamovsky, and Director is Co-President of VAAD Ukraine, Chairman of the Program Committee of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress Josef Zissels).
The Memorandum concerns a collaboration to create the state museum “Babyn Yar,” to be housed in the former bureau of the Jewish cemetery.
The International Memorial Foundation “Babyn Yar” was created in the spring of 2016 by VAAD Ukraine and the Jewish Council of Ukraine (President Aleksandr Suslensky) in preparation for the 75th anniversary of the Babyn Yar tragedy.
In 2016, the Foundation gathered the necessary funds, and organized and financed two exhibitions dedicated to the memory of the Babyn Yar victims (in M-Gallery and A-Gallery of Kyiv). This was done in collaboration with the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy Center for the Studies of History and Culture of Eastern European Jewry (Director Leonid Finberg) and the Judaica Institute (Director Yulia Smilyanskaya).
In 2017 the Foundation collaborated with the Judaica Institute to organize a series of seminars for school children and showed a travelling exhibition in Kyiv’s schools dedicated to the Babyn Yar tragedy.
