                  President elect of Ukraine meets with local chief rabbis

                  The President-elect of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky met with a delegation of Chabad-Lubavitch emissaries serving as chief rabbis in several cities of the country on Monday.

                  When former comedian turned politician Zelensky takes office at the beginning of June, he will be the first Jewish president in the history of Ukraine.

                  In April, his win against incumbent President Petro Poroshenko marked a dramatic electoral upset.Zelensky, 42, met with the Chief Rabbi of Kyiv Moshe Asman, as well as with Rabbi Shmuel Kaminetzky (Dnipro), Rabbi Moshe Moskovitz (Kharkov), Rabbi Avraham Wolff (Odesa), Rabbi Shlomo Wilhelm (Zhitomir) and Rabbi Pinchus Vishetzkiy (Donetzk).

                  They spoke for about an hour, covering the history of Chabad emissaries in the Former Soviet Union and discussing the current situation and challenges of Jewish life in Ukraine.

                  The delegation presented Zelenskiy with a Torah translated into Russian and wished him success in his new position.
