Sefer Center’s Youth Conference and Summer School
14.07.2015, Russia On July 12, 2015, the XX Youth Conference on Jewish Studies organized by the Sefer Center for the University Teaching of Jewish Civilization began its work. The Sefer Center is a part of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress, and is directed by EAJC General Council member, Dr. Victoria Mochalova. The Summer School in Jewish Studies “Conflictology in Practice: Jews, non-Jews, and the world around them” began its work on the next day, on July 13.
Approximately 60 students, graduate students, and young researchers presented in such panels as “Gender Sketches in Modern and Contemporary Jewish History”; “The State of Israel: From History to the Present Day”; “Jews in Antiquity and Jewish Thought”; “Anti-Semitism and the Holocaust”; “Jewish Literature - XIX-XX Centuries”; “Yiddish: Linguistic Studies”; “Archive and Epigraph Studies.”
Leading Israeli and Russian scholars are teaching mini-courses in the Summer School, including “The Hasidim Schism and Its Perception in Jewish Society of Eastern Europe”; “Strategy, Tactics, Ideology and ‘Poetics” of Conflict: Inside and Outside of the Jewish Community”; “Jews in Wars and Revolutions: 1914-1945”; “Jews and Judalism of the Greek and Roman World: On the Crossroads Between Conflicts and Compromises.”
